Spherical lenses can be manufactured per different processes:
– Moulded and polished (for big quantities)
– Mechanical grinding and polishing
– NC grinding and polishing (high surface request lenses)
Different shape can be provided:
– Plano-convex lenses
– Plano-concave lenses
– Bi-convex lenses
– Bi-concave lenses
SINOPTIX offers most of the optical glass available on the market:
– B270
– N-KB7 / HK9L
– SCHOTT / CDGM / CORNING / OHARA optical glasses
– Fused Silica (JGS1 / JGS2 / JGS3)
– Borosilicate
– Zerodur®
– IR materials : Ge / Si / CaF2 / MgF2 / BaF2 / ZnSe / ZnS
Lens quality depends on their size, material and complexity. Below some specifications that can be achieved just for references:
Size | up to Diam 350mm |
---|---|
Transmission | high transmission from UV to far infrared |
Scratch & Dig | 10-5 |
Surface irregularity | λ/10 |
Dimensional tolerances | up to +/- 0,01mm |
Clear Aperture | 90 to 95% |
Centering | better than 3 arcmin |
Coatings | Custom coatings available on request |
To ensure the quality of our lens before expedition a 100% inspection is made by SINOPTIX own QC. Control may include:
– Aspect (scratch & dig)
– Dimensions
– Radius of curvature
– Surface quality (interferometer)
– Transmission
– Focal length measurement
– Sag (profilometer – see below video example)
Doublets are made of two lenses of different refraction index cemented together with the purpose to compensate the chromatic aberration in order to have an achromatic final component (different wavelength signals will have the same focal length).
Doublets have better optical characteristics than single lens therefore they are widely used in the imaging industries and applications where a stable focal length is requested.

Toric lens can be imagined as a cut in torus (“doughnut” shape) which implies two different radius of curvature in two perpendicular directions. This specific shape, widely used in ophthalmic optics, enable to have a different optical power in two directions of the same length.
Toric lens are also called Toroidal lenses or Toroid lenses.
